Eye Care Resolution For The New Year

A New Year’s resolution may be cliché and it is often the basis of humor just after a few weeks, but taking care of your health is not something that should be ignored just after a few days.

Most people make resolutions like eating healthy and getting enough exercise to initiate a healthier lifestyle in the coming year. What they tend to forget is that much like the skin, your eyes are also constantly exposed to environmental damage and need a lot of protection than other organs.

The new year is an excellent time to do your research into taking proper care of your optical needs and restoring eye health. Following are 5 ideas that can help you care for your eyes in 2018.

1.     Protection from the sun

As much as vitamin D is necessary, excessive exposure to the sun can have its consequences. Your eyes are extremely delicate and are very sensitive to UV rays and light waves in general. Sun damage to the eyes can be the cause of cataracts, macular degeneration, and astigmatism in the eyes. Get a good pair of glasses that complements your style and at the same time protect those delicate retinas.

2.     Contact lenses

As easy as lenses are to carry, you may forget them at a restaurant or when you are out and about, you can also potentially forget them in your eyes at night. Dealing with lenses is a little more time consuming and you need to take care of them. Always use clean hands and keep them in the solution they come in. Take them out before going to bed always; if you experience even slight irritation immediately visit the doctor.

3.     Regular check-ups

Even if you do not wear prescription glasses, getting regular checkups can act as a preventative measure for you. You can always get eye drops and other advice from the optometrist. Getting your eyes examined can help you prevent problems such as cataracts and help you treat them in their earlier stages.

4.     Protect your eyes

Your eyes not only need protection from the sun, but also from other elements. If you are into sports you are likely to get injured, and taking the correct measures can protect your eyes. Wear ANSI approved glasses and eye apparel while doing yard work or other such activities. If you are going on a recreational trip, first visit your eye doctor and get the prescription for glasses approved by ASTM to keep your eyes protected.

5.     Eye-specific food

Yes, your eyes are the first organ that food comes into contact with, but try to eat for your eyes. Eat foods rich in vitamin A, K, E and beta-carotene, which help build eye health target the eye health and protect them from macular degeneration. Eating diets rich in fatty acids, amino acids, and omega-3s can be very beneficial for the eyes.

Bottom line

Taking care of your health is not to be taken lightly; your eyes are delicate and are susceptible to health problems as much as other organs. These resolutions are sure to improve your eye health.
